At Carshalton Boys Sports College, we believe in improving the life chances of every student. This work begins before the students join us in Year 7 and continues long after they leave us in Year 13.
A comprehensive transition plan is in place for students joining us in Year 7 and you can read more about that by using the Transition link to the right of this page. Transition to secondary school can be a very anxious time for both students and their parents and we believe in developing strong working relationships with our families to help ease this.
Each year group has a Head of Year and Pastoral Support Officer who oversee the academic achievement and pastoral well-being of the students.
Students in all year groups are organised into tutor groups. The tutor is the first person students will see each morning and provide an important point of contact for the boys and for parents.
Tutor time is a vital part of the day and helps to ensure that every student is ready to learn and has the resources and support they require to do their best. We often run inter-tutor group competitions and seek to offer a comprehensive set of rewards across the year.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and in Year 7 and 8 students are taught some subjects as a tutor group however, at least 50% of the timetable is delivered in ability sets to allow for targeted support, intervention, stretch and challenge to be in place.
You can find out more about the curriculum for Year 7 and 8 by looking at the Curriculum and Assessment Booklets on this website. You can also read about the broad range of options available in Key Stage 4 by looking at the Key Stage 4 Assessment Booklet.
Alongside our academic curriculum we offer a full and varied PSHCE curriculum which encompasses our We Believe Values and is at the heart of our ethos. This is developed through tutor time, dedicated PSHCE lessons and our assemblies. More information about this programme, can be found under the Personal Development link on this page.
