    Allergies & Benedict's Law

At Carshalton Boys Sports College, we want every student with an allergy to feel safe, included and able to take part fully in school life.

Benedict's Law is named after Benedict Blythe, who died aged five after an allergic reaction at school. Following his family's campaign, since September 2026 all schools in England must have and publish an allergy safety policy, and review it every year.

    Our commitment:

    • Our Allergy and Anaphylaxis Policy and Food Policy set out how we identify students with allergies, reduce the risk of exposure and respond quickly to an allergic reaction. Both are available below and on our Policies pages.
    • Our Allergy Safety Lead is Paul Avery, Deputy Principal, a member of our senior leadership team.
    • All staff receive allergy awareness training, including how to recognise anaphylaxis and use an adrenaline auto-injector.
    • We keep spare adrenaline auto-injectors in school for emergencies.
    • We are an allergy-aware school. Our catering team provides allergen information for all food served.

Does your child have an allergy?

Please tell us when your child joins the school and whenever anything changes, so that your child's record is always up to date. Send us a copy of any Allergy Action Plan, and make sure your child has their prescribed medication in school. If you would like to discuss your child's needs, please contact the school at contact@carshaltonboys.org or call 020 8714 3100 and you will be directed to the right person.

If you have any questions, please contact Paul Avery, Deputy Principal pavery@carshaltonboys.org
