Every student, seen and supported

At Carshalton Boys Sports College, we believe an inclusive Sixth Form is not a separate provision bolted onto the edges of school life — it is the foundation of it. As a non-selective school in one of the most selective boroughs in London, we serve a genuinely diverse community, and our Sixth Form is proud to reflect that: academically, socially, and in every sense of background and need.

Inclusion here means every student — whatever their starting point, their learning needs, or the challenges they are navigating — has a clear, supported pathway to succeed and to move on to a future they've chosen for themselves, whether that's university, a higher-level apprenticeship, or employment.

These guiding principles show up in the detail: in how we assess and support students with additional learning needs, in the practical support we build around students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and in the way our pastoral teams work with outside agencies to make sure no student falls through the gaps.

What this looks like in practice

• Personalised learning support.  Our Sixth Form supports students with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, SEMH, specific learning difficulties, sensory and physical needs, and Education, Health and Care Plans. Support is built around the individual — from extra time in assessments and quiet workspaces to adapted timetables and one-to-one check-ins — and is reviewed regularly so it keeps pace with each student as they progress through Years 12 and 13.

• A dedicated strategy for disadvantaged students.  We have a Sixth Form-specific strategy for supporting students eligible for Pupil Premium, built around three commitments: excellent teaching and targeted academic support; genuine access to university and career opportunities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group preparation; and strong pastoral and wellbeing support. Alongside this, we remove practical barriers wherever they arise — from transport and equipment to interview clothing and exam resit costs — so that a student's circumstances never limit their ambition.

• Pastoral care that goes beyond the classroom.  Our pastoral teams work closely with students facing a wide range of circumstances, drawing on support from external agencies including CAMHS, social care and school nursing where needed. Every student is known, and every concern is a priority.

• Outcomes that reflect real inclusion.  Inclusion is only meaningful if it translates into outcomes. In our most recent leaver cohort, students with SEND progressed to university at a higher rate than their peers, and our Pupil Premium students achieved a higher pass rate at merit grades than non-Pupil Premium students — this reflects a Sixth Form built to make sure support translates into success.
