Year 6 into Year 7 Transition

Everything you need to know about joining us

Welcome to CBSC

We know that moving from primary school to secondary school is a big step — for students and families alike. At Carshalton Boys Sports College, we’ve designed a transition programme that gives every young person the chance to get to know us before they join.

Our aim is simple: by the time your son starts Year 7, he should feel confident, prepared, and excited about what lies ahead. Below you’ll find an overview of every stage of our transition programme, followed by our full programme roadmap.

Our transition programme:

1.  Primary school visits     Dates to be confirmed

Our staff come to you. Members of the CBSC team visit primary schools across the local area to meet prospective students in a familiar setting, answer questions, and gather information to help plan for any additional support your son may need.

2.  Interview day     Dates to be confirmed

Students and their parents or carers are invited to CBSC for a one-to-one interview with a member of our leadership team. Split into morning and afternoon sessions, this is a great opportunity to try on uniform, meet staff, and tell us all about yourself. An invitation will be sent in a later communication.

3.  Supported taster day     Dates to be confirmed

Before the main taster day, we run a smaller, quieter morning session for students who benefit from a more gradual introduction to college life. This includes students with additional needs (including ASD) and those joining us as individual applicants outside of a group from their primary school.

This session is for students with identified special educational needs, and students joining us as a single entry from their primary school. Please contact us if you’re unsure whether this session is right for your son.

4.  Main taster day     Dates to be confirmed

All incoming Year 7 students spend a full day at CBSC experiencing lessons, meeting their new teachers, getting to know students from other local primary schools, and touring the school. It’s a fun-filled day designed to spark enthusiasm for everything that lies ahead.

5.  Summer school     Dates to be confirmed

Two optional weeks of summer school give students the chance to spend time at CBSC during the holidays ahead of their official start. Students may book one week only. Full details will follow in due course.

6.  First day of term — Year 7 and Year 12 only     Dates to be confirmed

Year 7 students begin their very first day at CBSC alongside our new Year 12 students — and no one else. Students will find out their tutor group, receive their tie, explore the school, and meet key staff, all before the rest of the school arrives.
