This year 5 sixth form students were involved in the Fulcrum Challenge Overseas Expedition. For these challenges students have to fund raise the money required for the trip, and so develops their leadership, time management and personal skills. The students travel to the location where they are involved in building a community project such as primary school or village. These challenges are fantastic opportunities for our students to travel the world and meet a wide range of people as well as developing students’ confidence and team building skills. More importantly these challenges dramatically change the lives of the communities where the projects take place.

Tanzania

Overseas Expeditions

Sally Fox, Zac Parsons, Stuart Smith and Aaron Patching travelled to Tanzania with their project...
‘My trip to Tanzania was incredible, I was interested in the idea of the experience but could never anticipate the full reality of it until the whole trip was finished. Over the two weeks I felt such diverse emotions, from happiness through aggression, pride, anxiety and sadness, to a complete mix of them all; these feelings and the moments I shared with such great people will stay with me forever. I have learnt to appreciate the many things I take for granted, from the people I love and the education I receive, to the computer I use daily and the music and books I enjoy. I hope to stay in touch with the friends I have made and will never forget the two life-changing weeks which we shared. I would advise anybody who has the chance to be involved in Fulcrum or any similar organisation to do so, and to do so with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn about the diversity of the world around them’.

India

Overseas Expeditions

Elliot Colburn travelled to India. What Fulcrum Challenge have to say about Elliot:
‘Elliot was able to demonstrate a vast range of positive qualities during the trip. He was unfailingly upbeat and enthusiastic and did his best to get others to be the same. This was particularly effective on the trek where his rendition of songs from the musicals was wellreceived. He worked extremely hard on the school project, responding to requests without question. He volunteered to be the first leader, returning at the end of the trip to provide good
communication to the group and great support to adult leaders. He was sensitive to the needs to others, a great team- player, very supportive and an endearing and individual character.‘

The photos below show the before and after of the project Elliot was involved in.
