Physical Education

PE is an integral part of Carshalton Boys. Pupils in all age groups get access to a wide and varied curriculum that gives them opportunities in different activities and settings.

Extracurricular activities are a vital part of a pupil’s life at CBSC and the opportunities are wide and varied. We are always keen to try new sports and will happily add them to our current selection of options which ranges from Parkour to Pool, Aussie Rules to Athletics and Darts to Dance and covers most things in between.

GCSE Physical Education is an option for students in year 10 - details of this course can found below

 Course assessment: 50% Practical assessment, 50% theory exam.
 Career possibilities: Preferred pathway to A levels. PE teaching, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Sport related degrees at University,
 Course overview:

The course covers Healthy, Active Lifestyles, Exercise and Activity, Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing, the skeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and muscular systems.

BTEC Physical Education is an option for students in year 10 - details of this course can found below

 Course assessment: Pupils are assessed through the production of a portfolio of evidence. Pupils complete a number of units, depending on their qualification.
 Career possibilities: Coaching, Fitness Instructor, Gym Worker, Leisure Centre worker, BTEC Level 3.
 Course overview: The course is designed to reflect vocational demands of a career in the sports industry. It covers Fitness Testing and Training, Practical Sport, Planning and Leading Activities, Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, Nutrition, Psychology and Lifestyles.

A Level Physical Education is an option for students in the sixth form - details of this course can found below

 Entry Requirements: Pupils need to be fully prepared for the intensity of the A Level course. A high grade at GCSE PE, Maths, Science and English are strongly recommended. It is also vital that pupils are regularly participating in sport outside of their curriculum time so to allow them to access the highest grades. 
 Course assessment: 30% practical, 70% theory examination. 
 Career possibilities: Preferred pathway for University courses involving sport. Sport Psychology, Physiotherapy, PE Teaching, Nutritionist, Sport Scientist, Personal Trainer, Dietician, etc.
 Course overview: The course is in two separate years and made up of 3 sections in each year. Broadly speaking they cover Anatomy and Physiology, Social Cultural Issues, and Sport Psychology.
