Business Studies

Introduction to the subject: Business Studies is taught at Key Stage 4 as an optional subject in the school. In Years 10 and 11 students have three-hours a week in which they complete three units through a series of assignment-based tasks. The course introduces the students to the key concepts of business, focusing on real businesses and how they operate.

In Years 12 and 13, students gain a more in-depth insight into the world of business. Similarly to the GCSE programme, the students have three lessons per week and work through assignment-based activities.

 Course assessment: The Business Studies BTEC consists of 3 units of coursework. There are no exams.

Business Studies BTEC is an option for students in the sixth form - details of this course can found below

 Entry Requirements: To gain access to this course you are required to have at least Grade C in English and Maths at GCSE. There is no requirement to have taken a previous business course.
 Course assessment: The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 in Business consists of 6 units of study. The four core units in the subsidiary diploma, diploma and extended diploma give learners an introduction to and understanding of the business environment, management of resources, marketing and communication – all fundamental to the success of business organisations.
 Career possibilities: Studying Business at Level 3 is a fantastic introduction to all elements of the business world. Business employers value the key skills this course develops in learners including becoming independent enquirers, creative thinkers, reflective learners, team workers, self-managers and effective participators.
